Caviar’s Peter Farrelly and Chimp Dupe Hollywood for Sprint
Director Peter Farrelly of Caviar, Los Angeles/Brussels/Amsterdam (www.caviarcontent.com) and a smarmy talent agent take a chimpanzee all the way to the top in a new in-cinema :45 “Monkey,” for Sprint out of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Frnacisco. “Monkey” features heated over-the-phone negotiations between the chimp’s agent and studio heads, demonstrating that Sprint’s cinema slogan, “it takes many phone calls to make a movie and only one to ruin it.”
“Monkey” opens in the agent’s lofty corner office where he and the chimp conference the director and studio execs over the phone. “Sorry, guys. He won’t do the part,” says the agent. “Why not?” they reply, throwing their hands up in exasperation. “Well, he’s seen your films and he’s not that impressed.” “Did he read the script?” asks the director. “Of course not. He’s a chimp!” snaps the agent as the animal eats a newspaper. “Look, we gotta have him. Just give me a number,” demands an exec striding through a studio backlot. “$10 million. 6 points on the backend,” the agent retorts flanked by his hairy client poolside. The scene cuts to a limo where the studio head barks, “Points! It’s a monkey!” Back at the pool, the agent corrects him, “He’s a chimpanzee and now he’s offended,” and hangs up. “How about $12 million plus a producer credit?” “Name above the title?” “Fine. Done.” But the agent has one more thing, “…he’s got some ideas about the soundtrack.” We cut to a music studio where the chimp pounds on a keyboard as the agent snaps and dances.
With a cut to black, a super that reads, “It takes many calls to make a movie and only one to ruin it. Please no calls or texts during the movie.” The Sprint logo and tag “The Now Network” close out the spot. An additional :45 “Blow It Up” is part of this new package.
