Music Box Films seeks a motivated, resourceful individual with excellent written and verbal communications skills to oversee and maintain the quality of our marketing efforts in traditional areas while energizing and innovating our online and social media presence and providing creative approaches to publicity.
Music Box Films is a Chicago-based independent film distribution company that specializes in foreign language, documentary and American independent releases. Our acquisitions are highly curated to appeal to the art house segment whose core demographic is an educated, affluent older audience. Art house marketing has traditionally relied on publicity in the form of highly positive reviews from authoritative, audience motivating critics typically based at major market daily newspapers and supplemented by press quote heavy advertising in those same newspapers.
Captivating trailers and key art along with advance word of mouth screenings and grassroots outreach to special interest groups addressed by the film in question have been and remain effective components. With the decline in newspaper print readership impacting the effectiveness of both positive reviews and print advertising and the ongoing revolution in digital media we are continually looking to connect in new cost effective ways with a film's target audience.
The job entails overseeing all aspects of marketing individual films to a range of distribution outlets.
Budgeting and Planning - determining with Managing Director the appropriate level of spending and the specific approach for each release and working within the budget.
Project management - create and oversee deadlines for marketing materials creation and work flow. A large part of this is working with our Creative Director who oversees creation of trailers and key art/posters.
Copy Editing - generate/oversee creation of press releases, press notes, official synopsis.
Advertising - work with Managing Director in selection of media outlets and placement of advertising. Publicity - working with the Managing Director on selecting and overseeing appropriate National/NY/LA independent publicists while working with our Head of Regional publicity in secondary markets. Online - maintain the currency and quality of the Music Box website. Social Media - build engagement across relevant social media platforms; build a viable email list. Special Promotions - coordinate and strategize outreach to affinity groups and convert to audiences. Film Festivals - oversee Festival Manager to maximize appropriate festival exposure, coordinate talent travel, attend when talent is on hand and assess audience composition and reaction. Qualifications: 3+years experience in Marketing/Advertising or Public Relations. Excellent written and oral communications. Hardworking, detail-oriented and willingness to excel. Culturally aware with an interest in film. Strong organizational skills. Experience with popular social media applications (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). Proficiency with Apple and Windows operation systems, basic office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Drive. Ability to work effectively with multiple individuals and manage multiple projects. Ability to work independently, creatively and meet all deadlines.
