The first-ever Advertising Community Shorts Night was a big success and a credit to the Midwest Independent Film Festival.
Those who show up early to the festival’s events are always treated to something and this time it was a question and answer session with distinguished commercial director Joel Sedelmaier. He reviewed some of the highlights of his career, touching briefly on the “Where’s the Beef” and “Fast Talking Man” commercials. He offered a few gems to the audience including, “advertisers are greedy.”
What did he mean? He was told that every commercial he wrote had to begin with a few seconds of silence. It always frustrated him, because he wanted to use that time. Today, in contrast, he noted, most commercials were shot in a similar fashion. They also start with sound and video so, Sedelmaier said, he couldn’t tell when one spot ends and the next begins.
Over cover story this week focuses on Chicago-based Bridges (formerly Bridges Media Group). John Polk, CEO of the growing business said that while they’re still full service they receive more questions about interactive media with each passing day.
Enjoy,
