VINCE VAUGHN’S latest project, “Fred Claus,” is scheduled to begin shooting near the end of this month or early December. Stage construction is currently underway at Chicago Studio City. Vaughn stars alongside Kevin Spacey, Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks. David Dobkin (“Wedding Crashers”) directs.“THE UNTIMELY DEMISE OF HOLLYWOOD JEROME” is the winner of the 2007 IFP/Chicago Production Fund! Congratulations to co-writer/director Frey Hoffman, co-writer/producer Malik Yusef and producer Rob Hess. The short film is directly based on the poem “Hollywood Jerome” by Yusef. “Hollywood Jerome” is currently in pre-production and is scheduled to shoot in spring 2007. X-Ray’s upcoming release, “Stash,” recently screened in L.A. for distributors and studios and should be on the festival circuit early next year.“BLACK MAIL,” directed by Hurt McDermott (“Nightingale in a Music Box,” Grand Jury Prize Winner for Screenplay, Slamdance Film Festival), is currently heading into post-production. The film, which McDermott calls “an unromantic comedy,” shot for 16 days in locations all over Chicago, including the sadly departed Three Penny Cinema. “Black Mail” stars Taylor Nichols (“Boiler Room,” “Jurassic Park III”) alongside Chicago stalwarts Steve Key, Jim Ortlieb and Kelley Hazen. The film is the first of a two-picture deal between McDermott and Akru Productions.
