POWERS THAT BE? Remember that pilot “Powers” that Sony and FX filmed in Chicago this summer? Chicago is still anxiously awaiting a decision from FX on the series, but here is what we know so far… Reports this fall were that FX network president and general manager John Landgraf was extremely positive about what he had seen from “Powers” so far. FX is also developing the pilot “Outlaw Country,” a crime/family drama set in Nashville, starring Mary Steenburgen and John Hawkes (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”). FX is expected to move forward with just one of the pilots, a decision is expected within the next month, we’ll keep you posted!
OZ STILL POWERFUL IN DETROIT: James Franco and friends are wrapping up “Oz: The Great And Powerful,” which has been filming in Detroit since July. Director Sam Raimi leads an all-star cast that includes Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, and Michelle Williams. Release date set for early 2013.
HEADING TO ITALY? “Mother of War,” a romance surrounding the short but influential life of Brazilian revolutionary Anita Garibaldi, is set to send a team of Chicago filmmakers to Italy next Spring. Steppenwolf ensemble member Rick Snyder will be making his feature film debut directing the screenplay penned by longtime Chicago arts critic Lucia Mauro. Stephen Baldwin (“The Usual Suspects”) is set to star alongside Brazilian film actress Leticia Sabatella, who is portraying Garibaldi. Producers Joe Orlandino and Bob Abramoff and Chicago actors Christian Stolte, Rich Cotovsky and David Pasquesi round out the team. Updates coming soon to www.anitathemovie.com.
NEFARIOUS FILMMAKING: The CNGM Pictures documentary “The Nefarious Octavarius” will explore the drive and passion behind the high octane, critically-acclaimed comedy group, Octavarius. Production will run through the end of the year. Have some fun yourself by following the group online, or by attending a Sunday show at ComedySportz Theatre in Chicago. SHAKE IT: Shrug House has begun production on “Unshakeable,” a documentary film about the work and life of Chicago-based art titan John Himmelfarb.
