ROBOT & FRANK director Jake Schreier

Set sometime in the future, ROBOT & FRANK is a delightful dramatic comedy, a buddy picture, and, for good measure, a heist film. SCREEN’s Mike McNamara chatted with first-time director Jake Schreier about his trials and tribulations pulling together his debut feature, his advice for other first-time filmmakers and potential Oscar buzz for Frank Langella, who is superb in the title role (no, he’s not the robot). Finally, what’s the casting pool like for robots these days and is Susan Sarandon the most appealing librarian in the history of librarians? Mac says yes. Enjoy this week’s Filmmaker Focus!
