Leading Off

I’m looking forward to 2012 for a variety of reasons but, mostly, I’m trying to make sure I enjoy it just in case that whole Mayan-calendar-end-of-the-world thing is true. Just another reason to live in the present, I suppose.

For our first issue of 2012, we start with a great cover story, “Anywhere, USA.” We interview film office commissioners and production companies to talk about the pros and cons of location shooting and green screening and when each makes sense or doesn’t. It starts on page 10.

We’re introducing a new regular feature into our magazine this year. Called “Someone You Should Know” it will dive deeper into the ranks at creative companies around the country and introduce you to someone you should already know. This first installment profiles Brian Higgins, Senior Visual Effects Artist at SOL Design in Chicago. It’s on page 7.

Our Extreme-Close Up zooms in on Jordan Brady, the director behind Slamdance 2012’s annual $99 Special Program presentation. Special guest contributor Brady offers insight into the finer details of frenzied filmmaking. “From Slamdance with Love” starts on page 8.

This issue also includes our annual Stock Footage Guide, with everything you must know for your stock footage needs. Phone numbers, fax numbers, emails, it’s all there. Starting on page 18.

Of course we have some of our regular columnists – Jon Slott takes this issue off, but Mike McNamara rounds up Midwest production news in “The Call Sheet” on page 17 and Dan Patton gives us his particular take on the agency world in “The Revolving Door” on page 16.

Enjoy, AS
