Sundance Best Director Ava DuVernay

First time director wins Sundance??? It’s true. Ava DuVernay’s debut feature MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, currently in theaters nationwide, earned Ms. DuVernay the award for Best Director at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. She chatted with SCREEN’s Mike McNamara right after her world premiere earlier this year to discuss the trials and tribulations of shooting a feature in 19 days, her sterling cast and the remarkable story of how she convinced producer Howard Barish to make her film.
