Keyless For Clueless

VW and its agency Deutsch are releasing a new spot next week profiling the auto-maker’s keyless entry system.

The spot, “Vet,” continues the Volkswagen tradition of marketing through simple, human stories. It also happens to be one of our creative team's favorite spots for the year.

“Vet" shows how the Jetta’s keyless systems works in even the most extreme circumstances. A frustrated dog owner discovers that the reason he can't find his car keys is that his bulldog has swallowed them. Not to worry, though–the Jetta will open for him even if the keys aren't actually in his hands.

Shot by feature film director Noam Murro, the commercial finds a way to describe a car feature with an entertaining story, not a set of specs. It’s a trick that Noam, who’s currently directing “300: Battle of Artemisia,” has pulled off for us before: recent work for Volkswagen includes “Piñata,” “Tree,” and “Crash.”

For Johnny Cash fans, the endearingly ugly bulldog is introduced with Johnny's cover of “Dirty Ol’ Egg-Sucking Dog.”
