Dan Fietsam: Five Questions With SCREEN
May 22, 2013 by Screenmag
Welcome to a new regular feature, Five Questions With SCREEN. On Wednesdays we’ll be offering this “get to know a person”-type column to help you make informed cocktail conversation. For our first interviewee, we went to Energy BBDO and talked with Chief Creative Officer Dan Fietsam.
SCREEN: CAN YOU COOK? WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO DISH?
FIETSAM: Technically, I heat things up more than I what you call "cook". I do follow a recipe in Cook's Illustrated to the T for Sunday Night Pot Roast that is killer. Again, though, it's because I don't deviate from their recipe, so I am just executing. But I love great simple food and really admire people who can make great meals happen.
SCREEN: WHAT'S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE TV?
FIETSAM: All of it? I'm a binger. I like to consume a whole season like reading a book. Right now (I know I am way behind on this but . . .) I am on the 4th season of "The Wire". And it feels very much like reading a great novel. I get lost in that world and can come and go as I like.
SCREEN: DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY.
FIETSAM: Wake up, play 9 holes very early. Come home and read every section of the New York Times. Drink great coffee. Walk my dogs. Then go with my wife downtown to Dose Market for the afternoon. Then a long family dinner with my 3 kids out at our favorite restaurant that evening. This never happens, btw.
SCREEN: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SPEND A WEEKEND? A WEEK? TWO WEEKS?
FIETSAM: Weekend: my home. A Week: Desert Mountain, AZ. Two Weeks: Can you take two weeks off?
SCREEN: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE GADGET?
FIETSAM: A Lacrosse stick. My son started playing two years ago. I find it to be a fascinating piece of technology – deceptively simple yet incredibly hard to master.
SCREEN: WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
FIETSAM: I am compulsive shuffler. So I listen to what the algorithms DJ for me - Soma.fm, Pandora and my iTunes library. To get specific, the Pixies "Doolittle" is my favorite album of all time.
