SINISTER 2 Shooting This Month in Chicago
August 4, 2014 by Mike McNamara
The sequel to the 2012 Ethan Hawke sleeper hit SINISTER begins shooting in Chicago later this month. Pre-production is in full swing and shooting is scheduled to take place around town between August 18 and September 17. No official word as to whether or not Mr. Hawke will return (though I’m hearing it's unlikely) but the co-writers are back at the table, with Scott Derrickson penning this horror feature alongside C. Robert Cargill. Derrickson, who directed the first SINISTER, will hand over the reins to Ciaran Foy (CITADEL) for this one.
Why the sequel? Probably an easy decision. Made for just $3 million, SINISTER grossed almost $80 million worldwide for producer Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that a follow-up would move forward.
And actually, SINISTER will mark the third small-budget franchise from Blumhouse, which is also behind PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, currently in production for round five, and INSIDIOUS, which is now filming “Chapter 3.”
eOne is financing the film, while Blum’s producing partners include Derrickson. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Charles Layton. eOne’s Xavier Marchand and Patrice Theroux are executive producing.
The release date for SINISTER 2 is August 21, 2015. But first things first, I’ll keep you posted with cast announcements, production details and whatever else you need to know about this one!
