Sundance Selects Swanberg Indie

Swanberg is back at Sundance. But this time it's Joe's wife Kris that is in the director's chair. Her feature UNEXPECTED will make its world premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, which runs January 22 thru February 1 in Park City, Utah.

UNEXPECTED was fully filmed in Chicago with a cast that includes a blend of Hollywood veterans - Cobie Smulders (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, THE AVENGERS) and Oscar nom Elizabeth McGovern (RAGTIME, DOWNTON ABBEY) - and talented Chicago actors Heidi Johanningmeier and DuShon Monique Brown. Swanberg wrote the script with Megan Mercier, former Artistic Director and Ensemble Member of the legendary Chicago theatre troupe, the Neo-Futurists. Executive producer is Chicagoan Peter Gilbert, whose producer credits include HOOP DREAMS, PREFONTAINE and Kris' husband Joe's Sundance 2014 pick HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

In UNEXPECTED, Samantha Abbott begins her final semester teaching science at a Chicago high school, she faces some unexpected news: she's pregnant. Soon after, Samantha learns that one of her favorite students, Jasmine, has landed in a similar situation. UNEXPECTED follows the two women as they embark on an unlikely friendship.

Congratulations to Team Swanberg and the entire cast and crew. For the full list of U.S. and World competition features, click here.
