Sundance Frontier Filmmaker Marina Zurkow
December 18, 2014 by Mike McNamara
MESOCOSM was named "One of the Ten Must-See Art Films at Sundance 2014" by the Huffington Post. Sundance's New Frontier program champions films that expand, experiment with, and explode traditional storytelling. One of the highlights of the 2014 New Frontier installation was Marina Zurkow's MESOCOSM (WINK, TEXAS), a 144-hour piece of animation which combines a series of beautifully hand-drawn environments to create a haunting mesocosm of a sinkhole in Wink, Texas. SCREEN's Mike McNamara spoke with director Marina Zurkow about her rare animated piece, what led her to this project, how she pulled it off and what you will hopefully take away from it. Enjoy this week's Filmmaker Focus!
