Terrence Howard Joins EMPIRE
February 19, 2014 by Mike McNamara
Chicago. Hip hop. Major Hollywood projects. Terrence Howard is well-versed in all three, making his next role a perfect fit... The Chicago-Cleveland native and Academy Award nominee will be starring in the Lee Daniels hip-hop series EMPIRE, set to begin shooting its pilot in Chicago next month.
Howard will headline EMPIRE as Lucious Lyon, a music superstar on the verge of taking his company, Empire Entertainment, public. The official character description for Lucious reads, "Raised on the streets, he has never backed away from a fight and will resort to any measures, fair or foul, to defend his beloved Empire."
It's a welcome return for Howard to the hip-hop genre. Howard earned an Academy Award nomination for his career-vaulting turn as DJay in the 2005 Craig Brewer pic HUSTLE & FLOW.
Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels (PRECIOUS) will direct the pilot for 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine. Executive producers are Brian Grazer, Daniels, screenwriter Danny Strong and Francie Calfo.
