DeNiro, Pattinson, Weisz Head to Chicago in October
June 2, 2014 by Mike McNamara
Academy Award winner Robert DeNiro joins fellow Oscar winner Rachel Weisz (THE CONSTANT GARDNER) and A-lister Robert Pattinson on a trip to Chicago this fall. The three stars have been confirmed for the upcoming heist-action-thriller IDOL'S EYE, set to film here this October.
The feature boasts a budget in the $20 million dollar range and will split time between Chicago and this other town up north we'd rather not mention (ok fine, it's Toronto, but we'd much prefer they just shoot the whole damn thing here). Director is heralded French filmmaker Olivier Assayas, whose 2010 five-hour terrorism biopic CARLOS premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews.
Assayas also wrote the screenplay for IDOL'S EYE, previously titled HUBRIS, which is based on the 2007 Playboy article called "Boosting The Big Tuna." The story follows a group of thieves who rob a man who turns out to be Chicago mafia boss Tony "Big Tuna" Accardo. I'm gonna predict it's probably not going to work out too well for those guys.
Deadline.com reports that "Benaroya Pictures has come aboard to produce and finance Idol’s Eye... Charles Gillibert developed and produced Idol’s Eye with CG Cinema, Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, Film 360’s Scott Lambert, Alexandra Milchan and Michael Benaroya. Ben Sachs is executive producing. International Film Trust will be repping foreign sales. CAA, which arranged financing for the film, will represent domestic rights along with WME."
I'll keep you posted as more dates and details come available.
