Sundance Director Back in Illinois
June 23, 2014 by Mike McNamara
Alton, IL native Brian Jun (pictured here) is back at work in his hometown filming his next feature, tentatively titled IN THE BUCK. Jun’s debut feature STEEL CITY, also filmed in Alton, IL, made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007. Fueled by a successful indiegogo campaign (here’s the link), filming for IN THE BUCK is currently underway and will continue through June 30th.
Jun is reunited with Raymond J. Barry, who was nomimated for an Independent Spirit Award for his work in the afore-mentioned STEEL CITY. Barry’s recently starred as Arlo Givens in the popular series JUSTIFIED; credits include TRAINING DAY, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY and DEAD MAN WALKING. Cast also includes Lobo Sebastian, whose credits include SONS OF ANARCHY, THE LONGEST YARD and NEXT FRIDAY.
In IN THE BUCK, Paul and his Brazilian-born wife Gabi ride out a troubled patch in their marriage, dogged by their separate demons - hers, drug addiction and the desire to get pregnant; his, an abusive father (played by Raymond Barry) – and unsure of how to find their way back to each other, if that's even possible.
Production team includes producer Srikant Chellappa, Chicago producer Carla Englof and cinematographer Corey Gegnar, winner of the Kodak Vision Award for “Best Cinematography” at Slamdance for his work on the 2011 documentary SHUNKA.
Great to have Brian back in Illinois. And as always, I’ll keep you posted!
