Deb Schimmel Answers Five Questions
February 18, 2015 by Andrew Schneider
In the latest installment of our regular running feature, Deb Schimmel, editor at Optimus, answers Five Questions With SCREEN.
SCREEN: What's your favorite day of the week? Why?
SCHIMMEL: Thursday always seems to be when the best things happen…long weekends, industry parties, drinks with friends, etc. And anyone can get through one more work day, so on Thursday you feel like you’ve made it.
SCREEN: Can you cook? If so, what's your go-to dish?
SCHIMMEL: I can cook (bake) exactly one thing: my dad’s special birthday cookies. His mother made them every year, and when she passed away I took on the job. She always complained about how difficult they were to make, but I thought she was being dramatic. She wasn’t. Fortunately, his birthday only comes once a year.
SCREEN: What's your guilty pleasure TV?
SCHIMMEL: I don’t really watch any aggressively bad tv these days. I'll rewatch the first 2 seasons of Veronica Mars and Buffy every few years, but I do it guilt-free.
SCREEN: What's your favorite drink, alcoholic or otherwise?
SCHIMMEL: I always order a Sazerac if I see it on the menu. The absinthe wash adds that delicious botanical flavor, and Sazeracs remind me of New Orleans which is never a bad thing.
SCREEN: What's your favorite place to spend a week?
SCHIMMEL: My best friend moved to Maui several years ago, so I try and visit once or twice a year. He knows all the best off-the-beaten-path hikes and secret snorkeling spots so I never feel like a tourist. A week there is so relaxing and fun, I feel like I’ve been gone a month.
SCREEN: What's your favorite gadget?
SCHIMMEL: My mobi iStick is the perfect travel companion - it transfers files from iPhone to Macbook to iPad in seconds, and I can’t fill it up no matter how many movies and books I throw on it. Plus it’s tiny and adorable.
