Lawrence Daufenbach Answers Five Questions
February 25, 2015 by Screenmag
In the latest installment of our regular running feature, Lawrence Daufenbach, cinematographer and owner of Daufenbach Camera, answers Five Questions With SCREEN.
SCREEN: Cubs or Sox?
Sox. Historically my family is originally from the south side of Chicago. In fact, there used to be a Daufenbach Saloon not too far from Comiskey Park. My dad instilled the love for the Sox from an early age and I loved watching Frank Thomas and Robin Ventura.
SCREEN: What's your guilty pleasure TV?
I suppose it depends on what you may define as a guilty pleasure. I do enjoy shows such as NEW GIRL and THE ARROW.
SCREEN: Can you cook? If so, what's your go-to dish?
I can cook, although nothing like my fiancé. My go to is a Italian spiced chicken dish with a side of asparagus.
SCREEN: What's your favorite drink, alcoholic or otherwise?
A good abbey ale or a peaty whiskey.
SCREEN: What's your favorite gadget?
I am surrounded by camera gadgets on a day to day basis which makes it hard to narrow down one favorite. There is something simple yet functional as a follow focus. It is a perfect mix of art and science. It mechanically turns the lens and artistically focuses the image that a viewer sees on screen.
SCREEN: What's your favorite place to spend a week?
This time a year... I'll take anywhere warm. I do enjoy time with the family, especially the week we spend in South Haven every 4th of July.
You can visit Lawrence and the good folks at Daufenbach Camera at http://daufenbachcamera.com/. You can also say hello in person at the Midwest Independent Film Festival this Tuesday. Daufenbach provided the camera gear for the feature DIG TWO GRAVES, which will be making its Chicago Premiere that night, and will be on hand to show off the camera package from the film.
