Editor Jon Hopp has joined Optimus in Santa Monica. Hopp has been expressing his visual creativity through film and photography for over 22 years. After making his mark in Canada, Hopp relocated to Los Angeles where he created Jigsaw, an editorial shop known for its gifted approach to storytelling and stunning Santa Monica office. Working with well-known architectural firm Pugh + Scarpa, Hopp created an environment that stayed true to his aesthetic while providing his staff with a high-functioning workspace.
“As an entrepreneur, Jon has the ability to combine his visual artistry with a keen understanding of business and customer service,” said Optimus Executive Producer/Managing Director Therese Hunsberger. “This is a great asset for Optimus, where we celebrate our staff’s ability to collaborate closely with clients to develop and deliver creative content.”
In addition to his work with Jigsaw, Hopp spent time editing for Rock Paper Scissors and Whitehouse Post, cutting commercials for a range of impressive directors and brands including Erich Joiner (GM/Buick), Mike Maguire (Orbit Gum) and Phil Morrison (Volkswagon). He also had the pleasure to work with some of the industry’s leading agencies such as Leo Burnett, BBDO Detroit, RPA and Publicis. After a brief hiatus from editing, Hopp set his sights on returning to the editing suite. He met with Hunsberger and Optimus President Tom Duff to explore opportunities at Optimus’ growing Santa Monica location and felt the company was the ideal fit.
“What I find most exciting about Optimus is that it combines the best of both worlds – the resources and talent of a large house with the culture of a boutique company,” said Hopp. “Being able to tap into all that Optimus has to offer while still delivering the personalized customer service of a small shop is incredibly appealing to me.”
Throughout his career, Hopp has been the recipient of numerous editorial awards including best editing finalist at the London International Film Festival Awards, best editing at the New York Film Festival Awards and multiple Bessies from the Television Bureau of Canada
