The Call Sheet

FROM SUNDANCE TO ANDERSONVILLE: Filming is underway for the independent feature OPERATOR, shooting mostly in the Andersonville neighborhood through July 24th. The Chicago connections here go beyond shooting locations, with director Logan Kibens being an alum of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her wife and writing partner for OPERATOR Sharon Greene being an alum of Chicago's heralded theatre troupe Neo-Futurists (also based in Andersonville). Some Sundance connections here as well, as OPERATOR was selected for the highly competitive Sundance Screenwriting Labs back in 2012. In OPERATOR, Joe, a programmer and obsessive self-quantifier, risks losing his marriage when he models the personality for a digital voice on his wife, Emily. Cast includes ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT's Mae Whitman and SILICON VALLEY's Martin Starr.

AND IT'S FOREST WHITAKER-APPROVED: One final point about OPERATOR... the feature was one of eight inaugural productions chosen for Oscar winner Forest Whitaker's JuntoBox Films. This new indie incubator is an in-depth story development and production readiness program for narrative feature film projects that can be produced for $2.5 million or less. More about JuntoBox in this article from Indiewire.

GO JUMP IN THE LAKE: Microbudget Michigan drama THE LAKE EFFECT is in the home stretch of their indiegogo campaign. Producers include Chicago native Kendall Goldberg and shooting is set to begin later this summer in Western Michigan. In THE LAKE EFFECT, four childhood friends — Nate, Jess, Maria, and Greg — are home from college for the summer and venture to the old Michigan lake house for a weekend getaway. Tensions arise when Jess brings her new boyfriend Alex along for the trip. Nate was hoping it would be just like it was when they were kids, but everyone seems to be on different agendas. When the real reason Maria and Jess wanted to come up to the lake house is revealed, a shocking discovery in the lake leads to the unraveling of this once close-knit group of friends.
