2015 Brings New Staff, Work At Onda

In its first quarter, 2015 is shaping up well for Onda Música Y Sonido. The four-year-old original music and post audio house for the Latino market—working closely with its post audio/sound design sister Particle and music house brother Comma—is unveiling a revamped website and releasing a Latin music compilation. Additionally, Onda had a presence at the recently held Chicago Advertising Federation’s 2015 ADDY Awards and figures into the upcoming Aspen Shortsfest, Tribeca Film Festival, and the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

“We ended 2014 on a very productive note, and we’re off and running in the first months of the New Year,” Onda Executive Producer Luz Agudelo says. The past few months saw Onda working with numerous HCM clients, including Purina, Advance Auto, Allstate, BMO Harris Bank, and American Family Insurance.

Onda's new website spotlights the just-issued “Latin Beats” compilation, encompassing bachata, cumbia, and reggaeton tracks. All music on the compilation is easy to clear, with Onda and Comma owning both masters and publishing. The compilation is also highlighted in The Comma Collection, a large music library containing thousands of tracks for easy-to-clear licensing.

“We are very excited about this compilation,” Agudelo says. “It’s a fiery mix of what is going on in Latin music right now. And because we control the master recordings and publishing, the songs are easy to license, akin to one-stop shopping.” The compilation features tracks by DJ Afro, formerly of the Grammy-winning, Latin alternative band, Los Amigos Invisibles.

Steven Aguilar Lands In Fests

Agudelo is also excited about Onda Lead Sound Designer/Mixer Steven Aguilar’s inclusion in the Aspen Shortsfest (April 7 - 12, Aspen), Tribeca Film Festival (April 15 – 26, New York), and the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival (April 23 – May 3, Toronto, Ontario, Canada). Aguilar did the sound design and mix for MEMORIES OF THE SEA and THE EVOLUTION OF A GEN-X MUSIC PURCHASER, which are screening at the Aspen Shortsfest and Tribeca Film Festival, respectively. Aguilar also did the sound design and mix for BEAVER TRILOGY PART IV, which, earlier this year, screened at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in the Documentary Premieres section, and will now screen at Hot Docs.

Onda Adds Assistant Edgar Romero

Coinciding with this activity is Onda’s new Assistant Engineer hire, Edgar Romero, who will work closely with Agudelo and Aguilar. A Chicago native of Mexican descent, Romero is a Columbia College graduate, who previously worked at JBTV Music Television.

Like Agudelo and Aguilar, Romero will also work together with Eddie Alonso, who joined the company last year, and who heads up the Particle Los Angeles studio facility and oversees Onda LA jobs. Previously, Alonso spent 11 years at Crispin Porter + Bogusky, most recently as Senior Composer/Sound Designer, a position that saw him also mixing much content for TV, internet, and radio.

“The creative and production values coming out of the HCM world are phenomenally good,” notes Comma co-founder Larry Pecorella. “We believe this market to be as important as the general market and our commitment to it starts with our talent.”
