Chris DeWinter Answers Five Questions
October 30, 2015 by Screenmag
In the latest installment of our popular feature, Chris DeWinter, executive producer and partner at October, answers Five Questions with SCREEN.
SCREEN: Can you cook? If so, what's your go-to dish?
DeWINTER: I can grill. But, for some reason unknown to me, breakfast is the meal that I have the most confidence in…omelets, pancakes, scrambles, French toast, eggs (sunny-side up, fried, scrambled), crispy bacon and hash browns are a few of the favorites on rotation. Now with kids, most of it ends up on the floor, so the dog has started to appreciate my cooking too.
SCREEN: What's your favorite place to spend a week? A weekend? Two weeks?
DeWINTER: We spend a lot of weekends in the summer on the lake. My wife is part of a circus like performing waterski team/family; it’s hard to make this type of stuff up, but once you see them in action; wow! I have been placed at the bottom of the pyramid due to my sturdiness.
Week trips are best spent in the mountains of Park City, UT or relaxing in Key West, FL. I am pretty partial to the mountains in summer or winter, but after a spending enough time in KW, you start to understand why so many folks shun the cold for paradise.
If two weeks are available (rarely), Europe is place to go. In a perfect world there would be more Octoberfest’ing, exploring and appreciating of how old everything is.
SCREEN: What's your favorite gadget?
DeWINTER: We have all kinds of toys around here, cameras, lights, lens, table tennis, bubble hockey…but my favorite new gadget is the Inspire1 drone. I’ve been flying them for about three years; it’s amazing how fast and far these little toys have come in such a relatively small amount of time. The Inspire 4k camera that we are currently using is amazing and the quality is only getting better. The future of drone work commercially is only going to get better.
SCREEN: What's your favorite American city? Foreign city?
DeWINTER: Sweet home Chicago is my favorite USA city; it’s my adopted home for the last 11 years and I still couldn’t imagine not living here. Between the business, the culture, the sports and the food, it doesn’t get much better.
Honorable mention: Grand Rapids, MI, the best home town ever. I am proud of my little town on the river and how they have earned the title of Beer City USA! Needless to say, I love going back…
As far as cities abroad, London is my favorite – so much history, so much to do and I have always enjoyed James Bond.
SCREEN: What are you looking forward to about Fall/Winter?
DeWINTER: Fall is the best: Halloween, great sports, some unbelievable weather, hooded sweatshirts and arguably the best month of the year, October. Winter is still my favorite season, the snow, trips to the mountains and the holidays with family/friends is as good as it gets.
