EMPIRE Ratings Romp

The Lyons came, they saw, they conquered. Again. The second season of the hit Fox drama EMPIRE premiered last night and crushed its rivals in the Wednesday time slot.
The premiere drew 16.2 million viewers and garnered a tremendous following in the under-50 demographic while jumping 71 percent from the show's premiere, the biggest increase for a second season in any broadcast show for the network since HOUSE almost ten years ago.
"It’s always very nerve-wracking waiting for the numbers to come back from that season two premiere," commented Michael Nehs, COO of Periscope Post and Audio, which handles recordings and ADR for the hit series. “You’re anxiously waiting to see if the program held its audience over the summer hiatus. EMPIRE exceeded expectations, it’s stronger than ever, it’s gonna be an exciting second season."
EMPIRE's ability to cement its place as ratings king on Wednesday night is due in no small part to the infusion of A-List guest stars, including Chris Rock and our beloved Oprah. SCREEN's Carlyn Hill has the full run-down on the star power surplus right here.
