August 19, 2016 by Screenmag
In the latest installment of our popular feature, Mike Kwielford, Director of Photography at Potenza Productions, answers Five Questions with SCREEN.
SCREEN: Can you cook? If so, what's your go-to dish?
KWIELFORD: I’ve literally shot with some of the best chefs in the world and what did I pick up? Absolutely nothing. Okay, well actually I can grill, does that count? I grill a mean steak.
SCREEN: What's your guilty pleasure TV?
KWIELFORD: CSI: MIAMI. I don’t know what it is about this show. It’s corny as hell and it’s all reruns now, but I can flip to it & watch an episode or two any night of the week…
SCREEN: What's the last movie you saw in a theater?
KWIELFORD: The last Hollywood movie I saw in a theater was STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS (I can’t NOT see a Star Wars film in the theater). I don’t really get out to see regular movies all that much. As far as indie films go, I think it was BAVER TRILOGY PART IV at the Midwest Independent Film Festival.
SCREEN: What's your favorite place to spend a week? A weekend? Two weeks?
KWIELFORD: Weekends are spent mainly in Lake Geneva for my family. Can’t go wrong there. For a week long vacation, we’ll often head to Colorado and camp for the week in the Spanish Peaks. No cell phone reception there, so we’re off the grid – that’s kind of refreshing. I don’t think I could stay in one place for two weeks. For our honeymoon we took two weeks to visit Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Florence and Venice. That may be tougher to do with a kid these days, but I’d love to go back to Italy and maybe visit Spain as well.
SCREEN: What's your favorite gadget?
KWIELFORD: You’re asking a camera guy about gadgets? Ha, well honestly, I’d have to say the iPhone. I still feel like I’m living in the future whenever I use it. And you can interface with all kinds of camera gadgets with your phone these days as well.
SCREEN: What’s your favorite holiday and why?
KWIELFORD: Fourth of July is my favorite holiday. It’s the heart of summer, we’re typically in Lake Geneva, and everybody comes together to celebrate our wonderful nation. And there’s lots of grilling & fireworks.
