CHICAGO FIRE/NCIS Crossover War
January 8, 2016 by Mike McNamara
This week's epic three-episode #ONECHICAGO crossover involving all three NBC "Chicago shows" - CHICAGO FIRE, CHICAGO P.D. and the freshman CHICAGO MED - wound up facing off with a crossover from rival CBS, this one involving flagship shows NCIS and NCIS: NEW ORLEANS. While CBS edged out a win Tuesday night, NBC and CHICAGO PD had the last laugh on Wednesday night.
The two-part Tuesday night crossover for CBS shows NCIS and NCIS: NEW ORLEANS jettisoned the series to season highs of 2.6 and 2.4, respectively. Meanwhile, FIRE earned a solid 1.8 rating followed up by MED (part two of three) notching a rating of 1.9. But the big win for NBC came the following night, in the dramatic conclusion of the three-part crossover, as CHICAGO PD scored a season high 1.9 rating — and its best numbers in more than a year.
All in all, a successful week for the three Dick Wolf Chicago shows. Looking forward, we are still awaiting word on CHICAGO MED renewal for season two, but the fact that MED has been able to keep pace with its two sister shows, both of which have been renewed, and the fact that NBC has ordered five additional episodes for season one, are reason for optimism.
