Geena Davis Joins Fox EXORCIST Pilot, Filming Underway
March 16, 2016 by Mike McNamara
Oscar winner Geena Davis is in Chicago to star opposite Alfonso Herrera and Ben Daniels in THE EXORCIST, Fox’s drama pilot inspired by William Blatty’s 1971 book. Today marks the production's third day of principal photography, filming throughout the city, including the historic Lakewood Balmoral District of Edgewater on the far north side. Director is Rupert Wyatt, whose credits include RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and the Mark Wahlberg drama THE GAMBLER.
THE EXORCIST, penned by FANTASTIC FOUR screenwriter Jeremy Slater, is described as a modern reinvention of the book, previously adapted into William Friedkin’s classic horror movie. It is a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men — Father Tomas Ortega (Herrera) and Father Marcus Lang (Daniels) — tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil.
Davis will play Angela Rance. Rance is "naturally beautiful, regal and proud but weighed down by stress, doing everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is currently struggling. She can’t help but think, however, if perhaps her nightmares about a demon are a sign of what’s wrong," according to a Fox press release.
Slater, who wrote the script, executive produces alongside James Robinson, David Robinson and Barbara Wall for 20th Century Fox TV and Morgan Creek Productions. Chicago production team includes production manager Dana Scott.
As this and other pilots continue filming throughout Chicago, I'll keep you posted!
