McKay Pilot in Chicago
March 17, 2016 by Mike McNamara
Second City veteran Antoine McKay has spent the last five years developing the half-hour pilot WRITTEN OFF. He's confident it was worth the wait. The pilot just wrapped principal photography this month, with an all-Chicago cast and crew. McKay co-stars in and is co-directing the pilot alongside filmmaker Margarita Shabazz.
In WRITTEN OFF, when faced with starting over in their 40s, the writing team of Keith Merrit and Liam Sullivan feel hopeless. Sometimes bad endings are wonderful beginnings... And endings.
"What makes this special is the amazing talent we have on cast and crew... Margarita Shabazz and James Shabazz are forces to be reckoned with," said McKay. "So excited to be bringing these wonderful characters to life. Been working on it for 5 years!"
McKay co-stars alongside fellow Chicago theatre mainstay Ira Amyx; supporting cast includes Audrey Francis and Tyler Kaplan. This homegrown comedy filmed in Rogers Park, Edgewater, West Loop and downtown on Michigan Avenue throughout late February into March, with Ogilvy Creative Director Stirling McLaughlin at 1st AD.
A Michigan native, McKay began his professional acting career at the Second City's Main Stages in Detroit and Chicago, where he wrote and performed in more than twenty shows, working with talents Keegan Michael Key, Nyima Funk and Marc Evan. His television credits include Detroit 187 (ABC), ER (NBC), Prison Break (FOX), and most recently, a guest star on EMPIRE as the ill-fated character "Bunkie."
WRITTEN OFF is in post and will be going before networks later this year. As this pilot keeps charging forward, I'll keep you posted.
