O'Connor Casting Promotes Two, Adds New Staff

Chicago’s O’Connor Casting Company has promoted Joan O’Connor and Virginia Anello to Casting Directors. Both have been with the company for eight years and are Associate Members of CSA (Casting Society of America). Joan O’Connor also heads up the Real People Division and Anello oversees the Extras Department.

David O'Connor, the company's owner, said that the promotions have been a long time coming.

"Earlier this year they both got titles which is huge in the industry," he said. "It’s a badge of honor that you’re able to fully do the work of a casting director, that you understand a project, take it, cast it, complete it while also having the expertise and creativity to bring life to what you do."

The promotions were not a surprise to O'Connor.

"In this day and age - people have to wear multiple hats - a casting director is one who is able to wear those hats, understand the position and the right people to do the job," O'Connor says. I’m very critical of business and making sure things are done right - people give titles away at the blink of an eye - I’m not one to do that - until the title is earned, until trust is there for my clients."

The company has also hired two new Assistants/Session Directors, Adelina Feldman-Schulz and Jessica Lyons. O’Connor Casting’s EXTRAS division, OCC Extras, is also expanding. In addition to casting UNION extras for commercials, internet and video content projects, they are diving into NONUNION territory.

“We’ve intentionally stayed clear of studio features and episodic television to be available for Chicago’s advertising production needs," O'Connor said. "In addition to needing stellar OCP’s, productions also need quality SAG and NONUNION Extras. And of course, the need for “Real People” casting is a huge part of that. We’ve grown, shifted, and stayed current with what the market is demanding and to service these needs for our clients.”

Some of OCC Extras credits include Esurance, AARP, Steak ‘n Shake, Illinois Lottery and Lunchables. O’Connor Casting’s recent real people projects include Ace Hardware, Jimmy Dean, Presence Health, Samsung, and Walgreens. Overall the company has been a part of close to 200 projects this year with many of their divisions crossing over to handle client’s needs.
