EMPIRE Renewed for Season Four

EMPIRE Renewed for Season Four

What say we open 2017 with great news for Chicago? Ok let's do it: EMPIRE has been picked up for a fourth season by Fox. The series, now on a winter hiatus, returns for its spring premiere on March 22.

The early renewal should not come as a huge surprise as the series continues to rank as the No. 1 broadcast drama among adults 18-49 for the third consecutive season and is the No. 1 broadcast entertainment program among adults 18-34, teens and young women, according to Deadline. EMPIRE also commands Fox’s largest Total Multi-Platform audience, averaging almost 16 million Total Viewers for the 2016/17 broadcast season.

On top of the network-pleasing numbers, EMPIRE has also satisfied the critics, garnering armloads of accolades, including a Golden Globe win for Taraji P. Henson last year for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama, amid multiple Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominations.

As you might expect, the Season Four renewal is great news for Chicago-area companies and artists, including Periscope Post and Audio, which handles production of the critically acclaimed music as well as ADR for the series. "EMPIRE continues to steamroll with such strong storylines and amazing music, we were not surprised when the order came in for another season," Periscope Post co-founder Michael Nehs told SCREEN. "The chemistry in the cast and the great Chicago talent in front of and behind the camera has kept EMPIRE strong."

"The amount of jobs the show and FOX have brought to Chicago has been great for the city and the industry," Nehs continued. "We are looking forward to Season Four and helping bring the music and dialogue for the show to life."

EMPIRE was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong who executive produce with Brian Grazer, showrunner Ilene Chaiken, Francie Calfo and Sanaa Hamri. The series from Imagine TV and 20th TV stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere “Yazz” Gray, Trai Byers, Grace Byers, Gabourey Sidibe, Ta’Rhonda Jones, Serayah, Bre-Z, Xzibit and Morocco Omari. Guest appearances include Mariah Carey, Taye Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Marisa Tomei, Naomi Campbell, Ludacris, Adam Rodriguez, Rosie O’ Donnell and Andre Royo.
