Who Is Super Narcoleptic Girl?

Who Is Super Narcoleptic Girl?

There's a new superhero in town, and there will never be another one like her. Meet Super Narcoleptic Girl. Created, written by and starring Sarah Albritton and Catherine “Povs” Povinelli, SUPER NARCOLEPTIC GIRL is the comedic web series about Keelyn Klein, a low-level, narcoleptic superhero with the power to make people dance as she struggles to save the day and stay awake.

The web series is set to film July 27-30 in Chicago. The series will be directed by Larry Ziegelman with Jon Kline as DP and Johnny Lange as Assistant Director.

BROAD CITY meets THE INCREDIBLES as we follow Keelyn and her best friend Lee through their day-to-day lives. Lee, always along for the ride in hopes of gaining powers herself, ultimately wants to see Keelyn succeed and help provide some much-needed support. You'll discover how being labeled “super” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and that fighting crime pales in comparison to fighting stereotypes and living up to the standard of an overachieving super-family.

The project has a particularly personal connection for Albritton. "I have narcolepsy and as a co-creator/co-writer, I'm able to make sure that it's represented realistically," the co-creator told SCREEN. "Most of the situations are inspired by things that have happened in my life, such as people assuming I'm lazy, not believing me, and falling asleep at inopportune times, like in front of my boss. So we have this world full of superheroes, but with narcolepsy grounded in reality."

Co-creator Povinelli added, "This project gives us the opportunity to not only bring awareness to a very under represented disability in the media, but to also work as a female comedy duo. To us, it means we are continuing to push media boundaries that have been trailed blazed for us by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Ilana and Abbi from BROAD CITY and Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley in ABFAB. Those women worked hard to get where they are and to bring other opportunities for upcoming female creators. I consider it our duty to keep the female comedy ball rolling. It’s not just a 'fad' it’s the future."

The duo of Albritton and Povinelli are in the middle of their final crowdfunding push and it's time for you to put on your check-writing cape and support this wholly original, Chicago-made production.
