Hundreds of people from the Chicago film and creative industry turned out to honor the late Ruth L. Ratny last night.
A memorial was held at the Untitled Supper Club in River North and attendees were treated to a special video tribute to the pioneering journalist's life and work. Friends and admirers gathered and several spoke, sharing memories about Ratny.
Founding SCREEN Magazine as a print newsletter in 1979, Ratny grew it into a weekly magazine which she ultimately sold in 2002 before founding an all-digital publication, Reel Chicago, two years later.
Ratny is often credited with helping forge a cohesive Chicago film community through her years of coverage and unwavering commitment to local companies.
The memorial video was produced by Optimus. The editor was Adam Henkel and producer was Terra Zenteno. A crew from Cutters was on hand to film the event.
