Director Ashley Avis signs with Seed

Director, Ashley Avis, has officially joined Seed directorial roster, the company announced this week.

“Ashley’s cinematic eye and innate talent to tell emotional, compelling stories piqued my interest immediately”, says Seed's Roy Skillicorn. “I believe her 'fashionable' storytelling genre rounds out our roster and is a strong cultural fit. She, Ed Winters, (her husband and producer), and I totally hit it off on our first call. Our mutual family-orientated businesses became a great foundation for our relationship to build upon.”

Commercially, Avis has directed for clients like Coca Cola, Red Bull, Footlocker, Pfizer, and recently won the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Award for her work on her auto-fashion fusion spot “Bespoke” at the Mercedes-Benz Bokeh South African International Fashion Film Festival. She also edits a majority of her commercial work.

Currently she has been greenlit for her next feature, 800, which she wrote and will also be directing, to be produced by industry Cary Granat (Chronicles of Narnia, Bridge to Terabithia), Michael Flaherty, and Edward Winters. It is based on the incredible true story of two-time Olympic 800 meter runner, Prince Mumba who Ashley met while he was driving an Uber and training for the Olympics in Rio. While the film will have a sports aspect to it, the true heart of it is a love story centered around the themes of overcoming impossible odds and a belief in oneself.

Last year, Ashley had her feature film debut with Deserted, an artistic psychological survival story that she also penned, starring Mischa Barton. Her second feature, being released this year, is Adolescence, staring Sons of Anarchy’s Tommy Flanagan, American Hustle’s Elisabeth Rohm, India Eisley and Jere Burns. The project was edited by Oscar nominated Douglas Crise (Birdman, Babel), and mixed by Oscar winning Post Sound Supervisor Ben Wilkins (Whiplash). “I couldn’t be more excited to sign with Roy and his company, Seed," Avis says. "Since seeking to bring my cinematic and narrative sensibilities to broadcast, and appreciating Roy’s obvious passion and reputation for not only producing great work and finding brands that fit a director’s uniqueness but, also, recognizing his ability to break new filmmakers into the commercial world in a big way, I feel this alliance is a most excellent fit.”
