The International Screenwriters' Association (ISA), a Los Angeles-based screenwriting resource, will be hosting its 2017 Chicago Main Event and Showcase beginning at 1:00 p.m. on October 21st at the Greenhouse Theater Center in Chicago.
The feature of the event is the live Table Read of excerpts from this year's Table Read My Screenplay – Chicago Feature Grand Prize winning script, “Boulevard” by Julie Pedersen, touching on gun violence in Chicago, and Short Grand Prize winning script, a comedy super hero story, “In Case of Emergency” by Molly Gardner. These works represent the very best of almost 1,000 entries received from the 2017 Chicago competition. Each Table Read will be performed by professional, actors based in the Windy City including Craig J. Harris (“Detroit 1-8-7,“ “Prison Break,” “Chicago P.D.”), and directed by esteemed director John McNaughton (“Mad Dog and Glory,” “Wild Things, “Push Nevada”). Both celebrated screenwriters will receive the ISA's Chicago Writer Award, a special recognition of screenwriters based in the greater Chicago area.
Other scheduled events include:
• Speaker Jacob Krueger, Sell Your Script (Without Selling Your Soul), Jacob Krueger Studios
• Industry Panel “Changing the World Through Creativity” with Q&A featuring Craig J. Harris, Jacob Krueger and John McNaughton
• Table Read Showcase

“With the Table Read winner bringing us a pertinent script about gun violence and the recent shooting in Las Vegas shortly after, it seems to be an opportune time to consider how art and creativity could be used for good and influence the world we live in," said Felicity Wren, ISA’s Director of Development. "We’re thrilled to be bringing this discussion to the forefront through the panel and showcase in Chicago, where the feature script is based.”
Doors open at 12:30 p.m. with event starting promptly at 1:00 p.m. More information and registration can be found here.
